24 September 2020
it was our warmest night yet. we both blew up in our sleeping bags. we set an alarm for 06:00hr so we could get an extra hour of hiking time. at the last minute, we decided to have breakfast at the lake, a .2 mile walk north on the trail.
23 September 2020
we decided to take a zero yesterday and get right back on trail. we had talked about sitting the week out and starting again on monday, but ultimately decided less time off trail was better.
21 September 2020
rags was up multiple times again during the night. we think it's something in the alpine fare meals. we had a chat and decided to call for a bail out, but to return to the trail in a few days.
20 September 2020
pretty cold night last night. though i didn't see it, there were reports of frost. rags had a rough night. she was up many times running to the privy for digestive issues.
19 September 2020
woke up a little bit before rags alarm went off at 05:45hr. it was cold, not quite freezing, but getting there. though i slept warm, i was starting to feel a little chilly, probably because i needed some calories.
18 September 2020
the not really raining, but dripping weather continued through the night. due to the packed shelter, we made breakfast near the tent. a squirrel in the giant white pine next to us kept dropping pinecones, some of which were large enough to be concerning.
17 September 2020
last night was windy. though at tent level all was calm, the tops of the trees sounded like they were in a gale.

dis-ass-ter!

23 August 2020
woke up at around 07:00hr and lounged in bed till 07:30hr. i was still the first up, so went downstairs, let lucas out and made a cup of tea.
22 August 2020
best night in a shelter ever. no one snored, no one had a super loud sleeping pad, no one even tossed and turned (except me, i'm a thrasher.)
21 August 2020
slept so well last night, in my own tent. it rained a bit, but i stayed dry except a little moisture on the foot of my sleeping bag.
20 August 2020
last night was pretty rough in the shelter. it reminded me why i am in general not interested in sleeping in them. what i can't figure out is why i keep forgetting.
19 August 2020
woke up at dawn, packed my tent and made breakfast. over breakfast i thought i'd check the plan for the day. i should have something like 15 miles to johnson hardware.
18 August 2020
so tired. i hiked from laura woodward 8.4 miles north to the u.s. canada border, then switched to SOBO, and hiked another 17.1 miles.
17 August 2020
i almost broke my neck today. i was hiking along a reasonably easy stretch, i tripped, and went headfirst over a 10 foot cliff.
16 August 2020
we woke a bit earlier than usual. i think we were all aware that it was dark in the pine forest, and overcompensated on when to get up.
15 August 2020
woke up at 0500hr despite my alarm being set for 0530hr. i took the extra time to roll out my legs.

12 August 2020
despite the weather report, it rained pretty hard last night. lots of lightning as well. when i'm warm and dry, i love that sort of thing, so i slept well.

08 August 2020
woke up and thought i heard the bird alarm. there were also the sounds of potential rain, so i thought i'd get going.
07 August 2020
woke up to the birds again this morning. they're really good at chirping a bit before the sun comes up, even at a mountain lake where the sun comes up late.
06 August 2020
woke up with the birds. nice dry cool night. packed everything up and walked down to the shelter. "gumby" was all packed and ready to go.
05 August 2020
what a difference a day makes. it didn't really rain much last night.
04 August 2020
what a brutal day. i woke to rain as expected.
03 August 2020
miraculously it didn't rain last night. it was a bit blustery. the trees sent down their finest twigs which sometimes sounded like rain.
02 August 2020
magz and i left the house about ten and headed to plainfield to drop the pups off at their aunt and uncle's for the night.
01 August 2020
